Overview

Formuley's Label Generator lets you design and export product labels directly from your formula data. Labels can include INCI ingredient lists, allergen callouts, barcodes, QR codes, and all the regulatory information your target market requires. Basic INCI generation is available on all plans. The full Label Generator with templates, barcode generation, and PDF export is available on the Pro plan and above.

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Labels in the sidebar to open the label management page.
  2. Click Create Label to start a new label, or select an existing template to customize.
  3. Choose the formula or batch you want to generate a label for. Formuley automatically pulls the product name, INCI list, allergens, batch number, and other details from your formula data.

Choosing a Template

Formuley provides several template types to match your labeling needs:

  • Product -- standard product labels with ingredient declarations.
  • Ingredient -- labels for raw ingredient containers in your workspace.
  • Batch -- labels for batch tracking during production.
  • Shipping -- labels for packages and shipments.

System templates are available out of the box, including pre-built sizes like the Soap Band Standard (1.5" x 8"). You can also create your own templates and save them for reuse.

Label Formats and Dimensions

Labels support five format shapes: rectangle, square, circle, oval, and custom. All dimensions are specified in millimeters. Enter your label stock's width and height to match the physical labels you will print on.

Formuley also includes Avery-compatible presets (such as Avery 5160, 5163, 22806, and 5294) that automatically configure dimensions and sheet layout for popular label stocks.

Design Configuration

Each template includes design settings you can customize:

  • Layout -- choose between vertical, horizontal, or centered arrangements.
  • Typography -- set the font family, base font size, and specific sizes for the title, subtitle, and INCI list.
  • Colors -- configure the primary color, secondary color, background, and text color.
  • Border -- adjust border width, color, and radius.
  • Spacing -- control padding, margins, line height, and spacing between elements.

Content Toggles

Control which information appears on your label using content toggles:

  • INCI List -- the full ingredient declaration sorted by concentration.
  • Allergens -- allergen callouts for EU 26 allergens.
  • Net Weight -- product weight or volume.
  • Expiry Date and Period After Opening (PAO) -- shelf life information.
  • Batch Number -- for traceability.
  • Country of Origin -- where the product was manufactured.
  • Manufacturer -- your business name and address.
  • Directions -- usage instructions.
  • Warnings -- safety warnings and precautions.
  • Logo -- your brand logo.

Barcodes and QR Codes

Add machine-readable codes to your labels for retail and traceability:

  • Barcode types -- UPC-A, EAN-13, Code128, or none.
  • QR Code content -- link to a URL, batch information, INCI list, or custom content. Choose the QR content type that best fits your needs.
  • DataMatrix -- supported for applications that require a DataMatrix code.

Position barcodes and QR codes within your label layout using the design editor.

Label Elements

Labels are composed of individual elements that you can arrange within the template. Available element types include: product name, subtitle, net weight, INCI list, allergens, batch number, expiry date, PAO, manufacturer, address, directions, warnings, barcode, QR code, logo, and dividers.

Each element can be styled independently with its own font size, weight, alignment, and color.

Exporting to PDF

  1. Once your label is ready, click Export PDF.
  2. Configure the print settings: page size (Letter or A4), orientation, labels per row and column, and page margins.
  3. Set the total number of labels to generate.
  4. Click Generate. Formuley creates a print-ready PDF with your labels arranged on the page.

You can also export labels as PNG images for digital use.

Tips

  • Start with a system template and customize it rather than building from scratch.
  • Use the INCI list toggle to automatically pull the ingredient declaration from your formula. See INCI List Generation for details on how INCI lists are generated.
  • If you sell internationally, create separate label templates for each market to account for different regulatory requirements.
  • For compliance-specific labeling requirements, see FDA MoCRA Compliance.
