Making Mode
Overview
Making Mode is a guided production interface designed for use while you are actively making products. It walks you through your formula one step at a time, supports voice interaction for hands-free operation, and lets you capture photos as you work. You can access Making Mode from any batch detail page.
Launching Making Mode
- Navigate to Batches and open the batch you want to produce.
- On the batch detail page, click the Making Mode button.
- You are taken to
/batches/[id]/making-mode, a full-screen production view.
The batch should have its formula and ingredients already set. Making Mode reads the formula's procedure steps and ingredient list to guide you through production.
Step-by-Step Production Walkthrough
Making Mode displays your formula's procedure steps one at a time. Each step appears prominently on screen so it is easy to read at a glance, even from a distance. Navigate between steps using the Next and Previous buttons, or use voice commands.
Ingredient Weighing
As you move through the procedure, Making Mode shows the ingredients needed for the current phase. Each ingredient includes:
- Ingredient name
- Required amount (already scaled to your batch size)
- Checkbox to mark it as weighed
Check off each ingredient as you measure it out. This ensures you do not skip any materials and gives you a clear visual indicator of progress.
Voice-Guided Operation
Making Mode supports voice interaction so you can keep your hands free while working with ingredients and equipment.
- Voice notes -- record audio observations as you work. These are saved to the batch record and can be reviewed later.
- Hands-free navigation -- move between steps without touching your device.
This is particularly useful when your hands are occupied with mixing, pouring, or handling raw materials.
Photo Documentation
Capture photos at any point during production by clicking the Add Photo button or using a voice command. Photos are attached to the specific step you are on, creating a visual record of your process.
Common uses for photo documentation include:
- Recording the texture or color at key stages.
- Documenting temperature readings.
- Capturing any unexpected results for troubleshooting.
- Building a visual reference library for training or quality purposes.
Completing Making Mode
When you finish the last step, Making Mode prompts you to:
- Review that all ingredients have been checked off.
- Add any final notes or photos.
- Update the batch status (typically to Completed).
- Return to the batch detail page.
Your progress, voice notes, and photos are all saved to the batch record automatically.
Tips
- Set up your workspace before launching Making Mode. Have all ingredients measured or staged so you can move through steps efficiently.
- Use voice notes to capture observations you might forget to write down later, such as "batter traced faster than expected" or "added extra 2 drops of fragrance."
- Review photos after production to identify patterns across batches, especially useful for troubleshooting consistency issues.
- For details on logging the batch itself, see Recording a Batch. For post-production quality tracking, see Batch Documentation.
